CAD Automation solution for RIC hearing aids

H3D AutoDesign V2.0 is automates RIC hearing aids CAD design in world first.

Hearables 3D has launched version 2.0 of its AI CAD automation platform, AutoDesign, which now includes Receiver-In-Canal (“RIC”) style hearing aids (both solid and hollow types). RICs are the most common style of hearing aid, constituting 81% of global hearing aid volumes in 2022.

AutoDesign version 2.0 was built following the successful launch of AutoDesign in 2021. The initial version focussed on CAD automation for BTE earmoulds and simple noise plugs. Industry leaders immediately embraced the technology – such as Logitech, Universal DB and Lucid Hearing – due to its simplicity, scalability and consistency. AutoDesign users can simply upload an ear impression and in 90 seconds they receive a ready-to-print file. This replaces complex and error-prone CAD workflows which require expensive 3D CAD software and skilled CAD modellers.

AutoDesign version 2.0 was built because customers wanted to automate more CAD workflows, not just earmoulds.

“We have been working closely with the industry to develop real innovation. One of AutoDesign’s most common feedback point is that it should automate CAD for a broader range of products. Since RICs are so popular, they were a natural first step” says Iain Mcleod, CEO of Hearables 3D.

In addition to supporting RICs, AutoDesign version 2.0 boasts many new capabilities and features. It can automate CAD for all types of devices, except for ITEs and IEMs. This includes devices requiring complex, rules-based component placement, such as BTE moulds with hooks attached to soundbores, hearing protection with acoustic filters and handles. Other powerful AutoDesign 2.0 features include a QC reviewer with difference maps, customizable profiles for canal tip cuts, placement of company’s logos, API integration and the ability to calibrate product designs to company’s unique design signatures.

 

Going forwards, Hearables 3D plans to add support for ITEs and IEMs towards the end of 2022.
